Bonds Beyond the Blockchain

NFTs often feel like a quick money grab. I wanted to make one about something deeper: the friendships people form in the crypto community. Rarible reposted the result, 'Friendship Through Crypto', and the collection sold out.

01 · Context

Why NFT marketing feels like spam

NFTs often feel transactional. I saw room for a project about something deeper than looks: the friendships and bonds people form in the crypto community.

The community is tired of new artists who DM people to check out their NFT. So the challenge was to grow without paid ads or DMs, and get noticed in a way that fits what the community values.

03 · Research

Hearing it from the community

To check the idea I ran a one-week research sprint: interviews on Discord, then Reddit threads to see if the patterns held for the wider community.

  • Interview

"I quit school and I don't really believe in the 9-to-5. I value financial freedom, and this community speaks to me the loudest."
  • Interview

"I really found people like me in this community. Entrepreneurial, into art and fashion."

Behavioural statement

How might I help people in the NFT community who value real connection feel they belong, by inviting them to share "Friendship Through Crypto" and replacing scepticism with trust?

06 · Learnings

What I learned

  • Messaging is a design tool: the right message did more than paid reach could.

  • Asking the community beats any report: the interviews shaped the whole idea.

  • Centre the user, and the love (and the results) will follow.

Result Rarible reposted the design, and the collection sold out.
